Better late than never..

Good day.

Just a short missive to convey the hearty message that we are currently working on the second issue of The Rashomon Effect. If all goes according to plan, it will be hitting the streets on the 1st of November, and if it doesn't, well... expect it shortly thereafter.

Chapter Two will, once again, feature a number of works from a wide array of contributors, and as usual a few pieces from the Rashomon Effect team. We will include a number of promising writers new to the magazine’s pages, and we hope you will be as enthusiastic about their work as we are.

We will also feature two interviews in the next issue, the first with English beat poet Polar Bear (featured in a post on July 17) and another with American author, Ron Riekki, who will be discussing the art of the written word and his 2008 novel, U.P.

Until then, we are seeking all those discarded essays, rejected stories, loosely lyrical poems and mid-sized rants. Give us your words, your pictures, your wives and your money.

Adieu.

Lion Face Lemon Face

Friend of The Rashomon Effect and prince of creative art circle networking Steve Shaw is currently putting together a night of story telling, photography, and I would imagine some very natty hats at Bethnal Green Working Men's Club, London, 8th October.

"LION FACE LEMON FACE brings you a night of Bests and Worsts! Interactive story telling, photography, music and dubious fashion, all in the East End’s fanciest establishment.

Everybody has stories, and we’re giving you the chance to share them. We need YOUR contributions to create a very special night of comedy, confessions and real-life revelations, made entirely from audience experiences."

Also represented at Lion Face Lemon Face will be mega-talented photographer Ashlie Sky who will be connecting the past to the present with live audience portraits.

So if you're in London around the 8th October, support your local flat peaked cap bearer and head down or even better submit an experience through the medium of words. More details can be found here; http://www.lionfacelemonface.co.uk

Time Out Interview

We are hopefully less than a week away from chapter 1 of the Rashomon Effect hitting the streets. What with our full time jobs and being gay for a day this weekend there's been a slight delay. But we've had some blinding submissions, even our very own Colin Delaney has become a regular hairy Byron.

We've also had the great pleasure of working with artist Meekins on the cover art for issue 1, and she's also been kind enough to create and donate some other pieces for the magazine.

In the meantime check out the interview Adam and Grant gave to Time Out Amsterdam last month which was published in the August issue.

It's nearly there.

Stories of pirates both on sea and the internet, lonely old men, cutting chicken, running with the bulls, crossing South American borders, the six word challenge, it's all taking shape. Thank you for your patience. In the meantime check out Polar Bear. We could be jilted lovers... we asked to interview him, he never responded.
Still 'Jessica' has it all: girls, football and words. His flow is ill too. As Adam would say he's 'well poety'.

Slug, hip hop's Bukowski?

Atmosphere were in town last night, playing the Melkweg and they put on an extraordinary show. The indie-hip-hop-fan-boys were out in force and Slug and co didn't disappoint. A lyrical whiz when it comes to examining the idiosyncrasies of ordinary scumbag life, Slug got me thinking.
From Wikipedia
'Bukowski's writing was heavily influenced by the geography and atmosphere of his home city of Los Angeles, and is marked by an emphasis on the ordinary lives of poor Americans, the act of writing, alcohol, relationships with women, and the drudgery of work.'

Slug might be the Bukowski of hip hop. The only difference between a description of Charles' influences and that of Slug's, is the city. Minneapolis is a far more disparate and miserable city than Los Angeles.

What is the Rashomon Effect?

Based on a theory, proposed by a film, this is the website of the writing journal of unreliable narrators, herein referred to as Rashomon Effect, aiming to publish a collection of writers and poets, drunks and ramblers based around the globe that may or may not go on to greatness.

If you would like to contribute to Rashomon Effect please email your prospective contribution to therashomoneffect at gmail.com

Until then, find inspiration from these two chaps...
